BackHandball National Champions
Posted on: 25/06/2025It's our pleasure to inform you that the Year 8 Handball team were crowned Champions of England yesterday after successfully coming through a gruelling day of high intensity games at the National Finals held at the impressive Nottingham University sports facility.
They firstly won their group with 2 wins and a draw against schools from Cheltenham, Oldham and Birmingham scoring an impressive 21 goals in the process.
This set up a quarter final against Toynbee School from Hampshire who we eventually overcame 5-3 after extra time. Our semi final opponents Westfield Academy from Somerset had won all of their games up to this point but were no match for DGSB as we swept them aside 13-4 to advance to the Final.
The Final against West Bridgford School from Nottingham was a tense affair between two strong teams. However, an impressive 1st half display saw DGSB lead 4-1 at the break. Despite the opposition pulling two goals back the boys eventually won 5-3 and DGSB were crowned National Champions for 2025.
Throughout the Kent qualifying tournament, Regional Final and National Final the boys have conducted themselves in a manner that was a credit to the school, themselves and their families (many of whom had made the long journey to lend their support in Nottingham).
A big congratulations to all involved and a big thank you to Mr White and Mr King for coaching the boys to success.
