Dover Boys Test Information Event – June 2026

If you are considering entering your son for the Dover Boys Test this autumn we would like to invite you to a short but very important information event to be held at DGSB on Wednesday 24th June 2026 at 5 pm. The event will be hosted by our Headteacher, Mr. Horstrup, Assistant Headteacher Mrs. Dutton and Assistant Headteacher Mr. Beaumont and will last approximately 45 minutes.

The event is designed to provide:

- Information on how to register for the Dover Boys Test

- General advice on what a grammar school education provides

- Advice and guidance on supporting boys in the run up to the test

- Information on what is covered in the test and how it is marked

- Guidance on the different types of appeals

- Key dates

There will also be an opportunity for questions at the end of the event. Parents / carers who wish to attend this event must register their intention to do so by completing the following short form:

Request to Attend Term 6 Dover Boys Test Information Event for Year 5 Parents/Carers – Fill out form

The deadline for submissions is Friday 19th June at 12pm. We will close registration early if the maximum number of attendees is reached.

Please note: there is only very limited parking on site, and this is reserved for those with blue badges or significant mobility issues. If you are likely to require an on-site parking space, please let us know on the appropriate question when you complete the form linked above. Please also note that we would also ask you to limit the number of people attending to one or both parents/carers and your Year 5 son(s), as capacity in our Great Hall is limited to 280 for fire safety reasons.

Entrance to the school site will be via the gates on Astor Avenue and Noah’s Ark Road. There is free street parking on the roads surrounding the school. We ask that visitors park with the utmost consideration for local residents and consider parking a short distance from the school, as this will ease congestion and ensure swift and safe departure after the event.

In Year Admissions

There is no legal barrier to children being admitted outside of their normal age group. Requests for such admission should be made to the Headteacher as early as possible in the admissions round associated with their child’s date of birth.

Parents are not expected to provide evidence to support their request to defer an application, but where provided it must be specific to the child in question, and failure to provide it may impede the school’s ability to agree to deferral. Parents are required to complete an application for the normal point of entry at the same time, in case the request for deferred entry is declined.

Applicants of other ages will be tested to ascertain their ability in comparison to pupils already at the School in the appropriate cohort. If they are of at least the same standard & there are spare places available, they will be admitted.

As a grammar school, we will notify a parent in writing within 15 school days of their in-year application of either the date for the assessment of ability or the reason for refusal with information about the right of appeal (where the admission authority chooses not to assess the child’s ability because admitting an additional child would prejudice the provision of efficient education or efficient use of resources).

Free Preparation for the 11+ / Dover Test

Dover Grammar School for Boys is proud to be open to pupils from all backgrounds.

To encourage even greater representation of children at DGSB, we work in partnership with Atom Learning, the leading online Key Stage 2 learning and 11+ preparation platform, to provide students who are eligible for Pupil Premium with free online learning and 11+ exam preparation.

This programme is designed to help children get familiar with the type of questions they may see on the 11+ and build exam technique and confidence. They'll be able to access KS2 and 11+ practice questions, learning resources, and practice papers through their Atom Home account.

To gain access to these free materials, please fill in the short form by clicking the link below. Your child's primary school will then be sent an email to confirm their Pupil Premium status; as soon as this has been verified, they will gain free access to Atom Learning.
