DGSB Future Space

What are we doing?
At Dover Grammar School for Boys (DGSB) we are embarking on an ambitious fundraising campaign which we have called ‘DGSB Future Space’, through which we hope to raise a significant sum of money over the next 24–36 months to support the development of much needed new teaching accommodation.
Why are we doing this?
This urgent need for additional classrooms has been generated by our success in recruiting significant numbers of new students over the last 3 years, particularly into each new Year 7 cohort, which means our number of students on roll is now far in excess of the capacity our new school buildings were designed to provide. Our new school was built for a total capacity of 880 students. Two years ago we had 866 boys and Sixth Form girls on roll and by December 2025 this had risen to 960 - an increase of almost 10% in 24 months.
In 2015, when our new school building was in the initial design phase, the Department for Education required the school to provide data on the number of students the school accommodated at that time. In the mid 2010s, DGSB was a 4-form entry school with about 120 students coming into Year 7 each year. However, shortly after the data was collected, we changed to become a 5-form entry school with about 150 new students arriving each September. Unfortunately, the DfE stated that continued involvement in the "Priority Schools Building Programme" was predicated on the original data being used. Even at this early stage of the process, we were aware, therefore, that we would at some point require additional accommodation for our growing student body. We just did not anticipate how quickly it would be needed!
This new accommodation will provide much needed additional teaching space, allowing the school to continue to deliver its broad and balanced curriculum effectively and efficiently and to maintain the exceptionally high standards and significantly improved outcomes at KS4 (GCSE) seen over recent years. However, Kent County Council and the Department for Education are unable to help us and new classroom spaces are not cheap, so the ‘DGSB Future Space’ fundraising initiative is about getting everyone associated with our community involved in creative, enjoyable, and effective fundraising events to raise money that will benefit our students for many years to come.
How can you help?
In addition to fundraising that will take place in school time over the remainder of this year and in future academic years, we are keen to hear from and receive donations of any size or duration from anybody linked to our school community and indeed any organisations outside of DGSB which might be keen to be involved. We are happy to discuss the ways in which contributing to this project would be recognised via naming rights and other such incentives. If you would like to discuss your involvement in this fundraising programme, please contact Lizzie Reynolds, Headteacher's PA, at lreynolds@dgsb.co.uk in the first instance.
