Personal Development and Rewards
Enrichment
All students in Year 12 and 13 will participate in one session of enrichment per week. The sessions will run on a rotation basis and will provide opportunities for the following;
- Food tech (Essential cookery skills for life)
- Financial Literacy (Tax, Budgeting, Mortgages and Loans)
- Creative (Art, Music Workshops, Small Media Productions)
- RSE (Following the DGSB PSHE spiral curriculum)
- DGSB Sixth Form Newspaper
- Basic First Aid
- Law Society
Where possible, external speakers, artists and an array of experts in a range of different fields will support the running of the sessions. Once a term, students will also be given a chance to plan and run their own enrichment sessions.
Sport
Whilst students will no longer take core PE lessons, we believe that it is important that they access some sport throughout their time in Sixth Form. In the 2025-26 academic year, we introduced the very popular Sixth Form 5-aside league. We are delighted too that in 2025-26 we have been able to field our first ever all girls Sixth Form netball team. Finally, students wishing to represent the school will have the chance to play for either the First XI or Second XI football team.
Fiat Lux, Rewards and Driving Lessons
Recognising Student Achievement
Students are encouraged to work hard, and their efforts are acknowledged by both teachers and the KS5 Team through ‘Shout Outs’ in weekly assemblies.
Driving lessons
As an incentive to reach their potential, students will be offered the chance to claim back money that has been spent on driving lessons. Students performing at the very top of the year group will be eligible for varying amounts of funding towards driving lessons.
Fiat Lux
In Year 12 we place a significant emphasis on the importance of participation in the wider school community. Students are expected to use their free periods in order to mentor younger students both academically and pastorally as well as running clubs and more. Students can access the ‘Fiat Lux’ timetable and choose an activity to engage with, receiving tokens for their efforts which can be exchanged for a range of different awards. These can include;
- Vouchers for local restaurants and eateries (including the sixth form central cafe)
- Bookable early afternoon finishes (where they might otherwise have a free period of study period)
- Travel mugs and stationery
And many more!
Senior Fiat Lux Scholars and wider school responsibilities
We endeavour to encourage student leadership and community engagement. Our Senior Fiat Lux Scholars meet weekly in order to share ideas that will positively develop the Sixth Form and take leadership roles in making these changes happen as well as take on the responsibility to support during school events and help run our regular charity events.
Trips and Events
Each year, as part of an initial team building activity we take all Year 12 students to ‘Boonies’, the assault course at Betteshanger Country Park. Students will also be able to participate in an end of year rewards trip to a bowling alley and water park. In Year 13 we hold a ‘Leavers Awards Ceremony’ to reflect and celebrate their time with us.
