Pupil Premium at Dover Grammar School for Boys

What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is a grant allocated by the Government to support disadvantaged students in achieving their full potential and to help close the national outcomes gap between these students and their peers.

Disadvantaged students, for the purposes of this grant, are defined as those who:

- Are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) or have been within the last six years.

- Come from Service families.

- Are designated as Looked After Children.

Although the Pupil Premium Grant is not ring-fenced, schools must demonstrate how the funding is used to meet the specific needs of eligible students and improve their outcomes.

Our Approach at DGSB

At Dover Grammar School for Boys, we are committed to ensuring that all students for whom the school is in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant receive the support they need to thrive. Our Pupil Premium Pledge forms part of a wider action plan designed to provide targeted academic and pastoral support.

This work is now led by Mr Michael O’Grady, our Pupil Premium Champion, supported by Mr Jacob Fysh, our Assistant Pupil Premium Champion. Together, they work closely with students and families to ensure that support is personalised, effective, and sustained throughout a student’s time at DGSB.

All communication regarding Pupil Premium should now be directed to our dedicated email address: pp@dgsb.co.uk

How Does DGSB Support Pupil Premium Students?

We want all our students to be the very best they can be. To this end, we offer a range of support for those eligible for Pupil Premium funding, including:

Financial Support

Each academic year, Pupil Premium students who need support can access up to £125 worth of school uniform and essential equipment. If students are unable to pay for compulsory school trips and Food Technology ingredients, we can also cover these expenses.

Furthermore, Pupil Premium students can also receive subsidised music lessons, organised through our Head of Music, Mr Yeoman.

Parents and carers can request access to our online order form by contacting us at pp@dgsb.co.uk

Academic and Pastoral Support

Pupil Premium students are closely monitored in terms of attendance, independent learning, academic progress, and wellbeing. Regular check-ins are held to ensure students feel supported and to identify any areas where additional help may be needed.

Changing Circumstances

We understand that family circumstances can change. If you believe you may now be eligible for Free School Meals, you can check your eligibility online at:

https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals

If eligible, the information will be automatically shared with the school, and your child will then begin to receive Pupil Premium support.

We are proud of the work we do to support our Pupil Premium students and are always looking for ways to improve and expand our offer. If you have any questions or suggestions, or if your son would like to discuss anything related to Pupil Premium, please don’t hesitate to contact us at pp@dgsb.co.uk
