Daniel Polden, Head of Sixth Form

Welcome to our Sixth Form

We are immensely proud of the Sixth Form here at DGSB and of the supportive and caring culture we have developed. We are a school, and a Sixth Form, with a strong identity and a clear vision for the future.

Mutual respect plays a significant role in Sixth Form life. You will discover that your teachers treat you like a young adult and you will feel like a valued member of the school community. You will be shown respect by all of us and we will place our trust in you, in the form of privileges which are exclusive to Sixth Form students. You will quickly come to realise that all of us here are on your side and will appreciate that we are here to help you get to wherever it is you want to go.

Student voice is another crucial aspect of our Sixth Form. If we genuinely want to ‘learn from our students’, then we need to empower YOU so that you feel comfortable expressing your opinions and feel confident that we, as a school, will respond to your ideas. Our current students experience life in the Sixth Form every day, so who better to tell us what we can do to further improve it? We believe that this approach creates an atmosphere in which staff and students get a real sense that we are ‘all in this together’, and this further cements the strong sense of community that is so noticeable here.

We have set ourselves a challenge: to ensure you fulfil your academic potential, whilst also helping you to grow into a well-rounded individual, ready for the next step in your life – whether that be going to university, securing an apprenticeship or entering the world of work. We also want you to gain independence, develop your unique personality and to start to find your own way in the world.

Finally, I would like to express, once again, just how proud I am of our Sixth Form and also how excited I am about its future. If you decide to join us, I am confident you will feel that same sense of pride and excitement during your time here.
