Young Carers Awareness Day on Thursday 30th January

Posted on: 29/01/2020

Dover Grammar School for Boys is supporting Young Carers Awareness Day on Thursday 30th January 2020. Young Carers Awareness Day is an annual event led by Carers Trust which raises awareness of the challenges faced by young carers and campaigns for greater support for them.

The Carers Trust website makes the following statement: "Recent research shows that one in five secondary school children may be a young carer. For many, their caring journey begins at a much younger age. Caring for someone can be very isolating, worrying and stressful. For young carers, this can negatively impact on their experiences and outcomes in education, having a lasting effect on their life chances."

During the week, students at Dover Grammar School for Boys will be learning about young carers and there is also a competition to redesign the young carers' DGSB logo. For the young carers within the school, they will have the opportunity to have some first aid training which could be vital for their roles as carers within their household. #YoungCarersAwarenessDay #CountMeIn
